This 1950s home belonged to a young family who loves to cook, entertain, and above all garden. Their kitchen was compact and dated, with a layout that worked against them, and it looked out on the garden they had poured so much love into. The goal was to bring that garden inside and make the kitchen the true heart of the home.

Removing a large wall opened the space and made room for the island they had always wanted. Saturated stone, a terracotta plaster hood, and earthy, botanical tones echo the garden just outside. The plan was to restore the original beams, and when that wasn't possible, I took my cue from the vintage hutch we brought in for storage and personality, painting the beams a soft sage pulled from its finish. Now they read like the green of the garden carried overhead. That thread runs through the rest of the house.

A bathroom with an awkward door to the exterior became a much-improved space with a double vanity, and I furnished the home office and primary bedroom with the same garden-inspired warmth, so the whole house feels connected to the place they love most.
